Hi ya'll, Here is my story about MRSA. I was pregnant with Twins(girls)and had a procedure done in the hospital that required an IV. I started to get what looked like a pimple on that same site. I asked my doctor if it could be staph, the doc said no. I ended up having to have a C-section because one of my babies had stopped growing. They were born 2 months early, and were doing pretty good. I was feeling well also. I had my tubes tied during my C-section, and the doctor nicked my uterus, but seemed to have fixed it. This doc left on spring break vacation right after this surgery. I sat on the postpartem ward for 5 days wondering why they still hadn't released me, then I started to run a fever. They had said they noticed blisters around my incision. I was like I can't see, so I don't know(I have a belly roll from the pregnancy). I have never been in the hospital for more than three day(force to stay because of hospital protocol) for pregnancy before. Well on the 5th d... read more

My friend's 17 year-old son received a head injury, which became infected with MRSA at the hospital. It is now in his blood. Can this type of MRSA ever be cured? I've visited this forum before in the last year, and my prayers are always with all of you. Thanks in advance for any info.

Have not been hospitalized since March. Diabetic since 1999. On injected insulin since April.
On 9/28/06, had a bout of gout in conjunction with high fever and chills. Right foot sensitive to touch, so kept it elevated and without covering. Next day noticed what appeared to be a spider bite about 5 inches above my ankle. Remember killing a spider while in bed with gout.
On 9/30/06, noticed red inflamed area greatly expanded from ankle to near knee. Area puffy, perhaps 1-1/2 times larger, with special tenderness/pain at spider bite location. Painful to walk. Saw MD on 10/2, initial diagnosis of either Staphyloccocus or Streptococcus infection, culture taken, was given Keflaxin and Bacitrin prescription. Had it filled same day and started immediately on 3 Keflaxin and 2 Bacitrin daily. Told to come back 10/4 for follow-up.
Received diagnosis 10/4 of MRSA. Wound had formed crater by then about 4 cm across, and had started weaping. Assumed pus was not good for area, and with do... read more

Bryan Posted: May 11, 2008 at 23:24 Dont know if this is the right place but getting desperate.
My father-in-law has had a second shoulder replacement...the first it got very painful for months and he had very elevated white corpuscle count the doctors said that they thought he might have an infection and opened him up and cleaned it out....they kept a culture for three days and said he was good to go.
A year later, same high corpuscle count, they now admit that they missed a more serious infection and have had to replace the shoulder again with a concrete ball and block filled with a broad antibiotic....the culture they based this on prior to the operation was grown for 6 days but they wont be specific as to what he has.
They did say the bone had been eaten away around the prosthis and that there was a sack of puss under his arm...with a track that up to his shoulder joint.
Here is where I get worried.
They also mixed vancomycin in the cement used to secure the pr... read more

maybe this will help some of you about i hope. this ointment called ichthammol ointment 20% is distributed by goldline labratories. i havent seen it in many places but it works wonders on infections.i think it is for spider bites.since i dont have insurance i am trying to find other healing methods.this ointment seems to draw up the infection to the top of the skin.for me it does great because i am in so much pain after trying to push the infection out .the ointment is like tar. looks like and kind of smells like. i think its worth trying. apply it and cover it.for me i applied it and left it on until i got off work and when i pulled it off, alot of infection came with it. like i said i dont know what this ointment is or what its for or exactly where to get it.someone my wife knows gave it to us because i had a spider bite( or so i think) and it worked great.maybe worth trying. hope this helps

I am a 54 year old female and have had MRSA for the last 4 months, thought to a caused by a bite from a Brown Recluse spider. 3 to 4 days after I finish an antibiotic, I start showing signs of MRSA again. I have had boils, sinus, throat/tonsil problems and now seem to be affected in my bones and joints. Recently, all joints of my arms, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles are very painful. It almost feels as though my entire arm and leg BONES hurt as well. (I have had MILD Osteoarthritis for about 15 years in my knees and ankles but nothing like this!) Does anyone know if MRSA can affect bones and/or joints? My doc is sending me to an infectious disease doctor but I have not had the appointment yet. Thanks for any information you can share with me! God Bless you all! Carole

I am concerned about an a new employee who has been hospitalized for MRSA. She had cysts that had to be removed and was in Quaratine while at the hospital for over a week. She said she was a carrier of MRSA and is no longer contageous? Is that possible? I am worried and want to know what precations to take to insure other peoples safety at work. She has her wounds under her arm, they are covered, and I am not too sure how to handle this situation...besides diligent hand washing etc. Can I ask her to talk to her docter about specific concerns? Maybe that is overstepping boundries, but I am worried. She dosn't seem to be worried?

HEllo My daughter is 24 and has had three babies, plus a thyroid surgery in past four yrs. She has MRSA now, and has no insurance. She has horrible boils on her breasts. Very painful, etc. Do you know if you can get disability for MRSA? I do not know how she could work with public with these horrible sores, and pain. Is there a place she can go to MD that would help with her with no insurance?

Hello, I am new to this site and I went searching for some answers the day my husband got the test results that said his mrsa was back. he had back surgery in Jan. 07. Surgery went fine, but after 1 week, he became deathly ill, running high fever and severe headaches. We rushed him to the ER where he had the surgery and after some testing found that he had a spinal fluid leak that was caused by a staph infection. When he left the hosp he was diagnosed with mrsa and was put on 6 weeks of IV vanco therapy. After 3 weeks of being off the IV, his infection recurred. He is now on another round of IV vanco. They did several test to try and find where the infection was and found it to be in a pocket of fluid in his back near the surgery site. The dr. does not want to put him through surgery again, but I am wondering, what will it take to get rid of this? I am desperate for some support and comments. He has been off work with no pay for 3 months now. We also have a 2 year old and I am won... read more

I wish I could help, but I am so confused that if I did try to help I would probably give out wrong information. I would like to know how my mrsa has given me a cold that does not seem to be going away. What do I do? I have been to the ER twice in 4 days and nobody seems to really care. I am 18 years old this Monday May, 12 1990. I don't know what to do. I am very scared because I have never had this before. Nobody will tell me how I got it and why I got it. My mrsa infection started out as a small red pimple. It started to grow and grow. By the time it had gotten bigger than a quarter I had to go to the ER to get it drained. two days later I had to go bacck because I was getting really bad side effects. I was there for about 4 hours the first visit and 4 hours the second time. How do I know when it is getting better or worse? I don't want to end up getting superbug or even dying. My life since 10 years ago has been awful because I have had so many mental health issue... read more

In my 9 month journey with Community contracted Bactrim suceptible MRSA I will share with you what I have done to keep the MRSA at bay.
First a quick update. Been in and out of hospitals since 2003. On heavy antibiotics the year prior to MRSA infection. Presented with large "cysts" on labia which went miss diagnosed by my gynocologist as ingrown hair follicles. SHe lanced them in the office without taking a culture which no doubt exposed the next person who visited that same exam room. Treated with Levquin. ABsesses continued in labia, vaginal area and rectum as well as soft tissue under arms. Finally my primary did a culture and found MRSA. By this time 3 months later I was very sick. Recommendatin was bacitracin and hibicleanse and bactrim. Finally saw a Infectious disease dr who's rx advice was 1 round of zyvox followed by once a day bactrim. Infection reared its ugly head again. Went to bleach baths that worked great at keeping MRSA at bay. Unfortunately, I got irritation in ... read more

I am a nurse in the Detroit, Michigan area. I have been fighting MRSA for over 3 years now. I have severe pain in the area of my MRSA infection, and recurrent sores and drainage from around my scar. How are people dealing with the pain issues?

A 40-year-old Detroit area woman had endured painfully infected foot sores for more than a year. Doctors gave her numerous antibiotics, but nothing worked. Finally, last April, they amputated one of her toes -- and made a frightening discovery.
Her sores were infected with a virulent new strain of the bacterium staphylococcus aureus, or staph aureus. By stealing genetic material from another bug, the new strain became totally resistant to vancomycin, the longtime drug of last defense against it. Health officials would not identify the metro Detroit woman or what hospital treated her.
The infection was the first of its kind in the world and a landmark defeat for doctors and public health officials in the fight against growing antibiotic resistance. It also was evidence that the Detroit area has become an incubator for resistant strains.
"From a scientific point of view, it's probably one of the most remarkable and significant events in my lifetime," said Dr. Steve Lerne... read more

Hi, I'm looking for information on the possibility of recurrent MRSA infections. I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago, treated with Rocephin and 5 days of Bactrim. My 12 y.o.son was diagnosed with MRSA this week. I've been cautioned by his doctor about re-infection. Does having MRSA make people more suceptible to re-infection? Thanks

it's been determined that my mom has this mrsa virus in her lung. if the antibiotic she is taking doesn't work, she needs to be given an antibiotic introvenously. i feel unclear as to the contagion factor. can anyone be definitive about this? also, any specialists one can recommend? and, i hope, some positive outcomes. I've only read some pretty harsh realities when it comes to mrsa. thank you.

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing better.
We are doing great. Our family was attacked by a vicious strain of MRSA that rapidly turn into flesh eating boils. This happen about 20 months ago and we are free from any signs of MRSA and we have not had anymore boils, lesions, etc. I know that our story will be hard for some of you to believe. I still have a hard time believing it myself. It has been almost two years since I joined this forum trying to find answers.
I was determined not to let this monster kill my family. Our family was able to come out of this MRSA crisis WITHOUT the use of antibiotics. We ran everything we did by our MD and IDD. We seriously considered their counsel and then we made decisions. We were very proactive in fighting MRSA.
There has been some confusion regarding our recovery, what we used, how we used it, our motives in sharing our recovery etc. I hope to clarify any question.
There has been a lot of confusion over Allicin su... read more

Safe and Unsafe Broad-Spectrum/Antibiotic Therapy
Coming across this information really set me back in my chair. Since being diagnosed MRSA positive 5 months ago, I have been prescribed several antibiotics from the lists below by physicians attempting to cure me. I wonder IF initially I had seen doctors knowledgeable about responsive MRSA treatments, and had I been prescribed antibiotics from the “SAFE” list, would this have saved me the grief of contracting a 2nd deadly pathogenic bacteria Clostridium difficile, commonly known as C-diff. This “side effect” disease C-diff is commonly known by the medical community to be brought on by antibiotic treatment/therapy. Some antibiotics are known to cause C-diff, other antibiotics are less likely, and some are commonly known as safe not to cause C-diff, outside the rare case of course. I thought it was important to share this information. Perhaps something to talk with your doctors about. Wish I had known sooner

Research has shown that there are 33 isolated compounds, at least these 33 are the Most Active substances, including the sulfur containing compounds of ALLICIN, ALIIN, CYCROALLIIN, AND DIALLYLDISULPHIDES. Here is a list and breakdown of active factors that are present in garlic. ALLICIN, - this substance is largely responsible for garlics antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, and the odorous factor in garlic.
ALLIIN - the sulfur containing amino acid in garlic from which allicin is made by the action of the enzyme alliinase. This content is ascribed the antibiotic effect of garlic.
DIALLYLDISULPHIDE-OXIDE - the chemical compound into which allicin is changed in the system. This factor is attributed the cholesterol and lipid-lowering effect of garlic.
Gurwitch Rays - the mitogenitic radiation factor that stimulated cell growth and has a rejuvenating stimulating effect on all body functions.
Anti-hemolytic factor - responsible for it's beneficial effect in the treat... read more

have had boils on my legs and inner thighs for about 5 yrs now, they go away for a little while and just come back, they have been dismissed as "just things some people get" and "i am lucky that they are not worse" by 3 or 4 doctors. i finally had asked a gyn to culture one of them and it came back as a staph infection-dr. is out of town so nurse called me with the results. She read off the results as a rare staph infection and referred me to a surgen. Thats it.do i have these things removed without taking antibotics ? im very confused and worried i have childern and a husband - do they have it also ? are all staph infections mrsa or was the culture grown for just a basic staph infection? is there a diffrence?

Well, this ID doc didn't seem to think my situation was terribly serious. He examined my 2nd outbreak (yes, with gloves), a small boil that looks considerably better today than it did when it broke out 1 1/2 weeks ago. He noted that it is not draining, and therefore is not actively infected and that I should finish my current 10-day prescription of Bactrim (2 days left on that) and then...no more antibiotics.
He prescribed Bactroban antibiotic ointment to apply to my nostrils 2x per day for 5 days and then recommended I pick up a bottle of Hibiclense to be used especially in the "areas where bacteria likes to gather": behind the ears, armpits, groin and perineum. I mentioned I was already washing with PhisoHex twice a day but he thought Hibiclense was actually a better product. (Hmmm...PhisoHex requires a prescription and it cost me $65 for a 16 oz bottle. Hibiclense is over-the-counter and costs $10 for an 8 oz. bottle.) He recommended using Hibiclense twice a day.
