Can i just alert peoples attention to a dangerous toy on the market bought at crufts by my friend who has one of my pups. The toy is called a Busy Buddy made by premier. It is a kong type toy , dumbell in shape of hard rubber with holes in either end of the dumbell to put treats etc into. Well my friend gave this toy to her 7 month old pup with treats in, and after five minuits saw him scrabbling around on the floor she went to take it off him and found him to have his tongue trapped in the hole by the vacuum it had caused, his tougue wouldnt come out and was swelling up and causing him to choke , she couldnt cut it off as the rubber was too thick and of course he was panicking ... as she was. she had to rush him to the vet last night last night to have him sedated wh... read more

Nov 7th 05 hearing, Kirk, is this the vet Joe Inglis wrote about in his book 'It really does happen to a Vet'?. If it is, why was he not removed for his criminal convictions, violence and abuse many, many years ago. Why have so many vets, unqualified VN's worked alongside him and not done anything, why did the RCVS ignore client complaints for so long, why did the RCVS not question Joe Inglis, why did the BVHA list his practice as fit to be a veterinary hospital. Because vet standards don't actually mean anything, thats why. Too little too late. Which only proves that its who you know in the RCVS that matters, your friends who will look after you.

Hi,

new to this site, it's good, very informative and I'm learning loads. I've recently inherited a cat.... he's nice, but has varying ailments and sooner or later he's going to need to go to the vet. I've been reading heaps of stuff about the cost of this and I have to say, I find it a little worrying as I'm on a low wage, but because I don't claim benefits I can't go to the local PDSA vet.

There are lots of vets in the yellow pages, and I can't really afford to shop around. Basically I'm worried about massive bills, and the possibility of being ripped off. What I'm trying to find out from talking to people locally is whether it's common to face large, and often unneccesary vets bills, or if it's just me being paranoid!

Is it the larger practices or smaller practices or potentially are they both as bad as each other?

I got a leaflet from Tescos about cat insurance so I might do that as he's not getting any younger!

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Jo

My dog was sick with a cough for about a week. we took him to the vet thinking something was stuck in throat.he was given antibiotics & told he had fluid on his lungs and a throat infection. After 4 days he was still coughing (gagging a little here and there)I was insistant he had something in his throat. I took him back they did an xray of his lungs and found some sort of infection or they thought rat poision possibly also was told cancer was a another reason.I let them test him by having a trach wash which is surgery were they go into the lung and get a sample to send to labs. lab came back small growth of mrsa was present the vet said she has to do research. noone in the house is sick nor do they have sores. The dog never had sores on his body any where.
we are unsure where he got this and more will he contaminate us.He is a house dog. Does anyone else know anything about this?

I recently watched a documentary called A Year in Tibet and was really shocked at the treatment of these poor dogs in preparation for a visit by the Panchen Lama did anyone else see it?
I understand the Dalai Lama does a lot to aid animal rights issues, so i was shocked to see that his monks and their aides were so brutal in handling these dogs.

This is shocking!

A CLINIC is killing healthy dogs and secretly selling their body parts to Britain’s most prestigious veterinary college for research, an investigation has found.

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has a financial agreement with a vet’s practice which provides the organs from dogs on a regular basis.

An undercover reporter posing as an owner found that staff at the Greyhound Clinic in Essex agreed to kill greyhounds for £30 each even though he told them the dogs had “nothing wrong with them”.

The clinic is then paid by the college, which specifically insists the dogs must be healthy before being euthanased, for each animal from which it supplies parts.

The RVC, which is the oldest and largest veterinary college in Britain, admitted that it had a number of similar financial agreements with other clinics to provide specimens.

The practice has “horrified” the RSPCA and animal welfare campaigners and even one of the heads of the greyhound racing indu... read more

Can any knowledgeable types out there tell me whether they think I should be incorporating vegetable matter in the food I give my four dogs, and, if so, how do I do it as they don't seem to like it very much? Cooked or raw?
Many thanks for any help you can offer

RSPCA REPORT HUGE INCREASE IN ANIMAL CRUELTY

The Daily Express today ie. 23.7.2005 says that the RSPCA has reported a huge increase in animal cruelty. The article says Jackie Ballard, the RSPCA's Director General is quoted as saying "The statistics are truly shocking. It is staggering that nearly 20,000 animals don't even have access to water" If these 20,000 pets are being fed dry food then not having access to water is immensely dangerous for them and I am concerned that Vets do not speak out about animal cruelty but surely they should in relation to the new Animal Welfare Bill be demanding that people do not get pets so easily because if people did not get pets so easily then that would stop a lot of the cruelty. Do people on the forum agree that people get animals far too easily. I know people contributing to this forum are real animal lovers and would not treat animals cruelly but by the RSPCA's own admission the figures of animal cruelty are appalling and there has been a huge increase in animals being treated c... read more

commercial dog food

Can I ask whether any of the people who are virulently opposed to commercial pet foods include Burns products in their opproprium? I feed my four rescue dogs on a mixture of about one third Burns kibble (oats and either fish or venison), the rest being raw steak mince, raw ox heart, lambs kidney, liver etc, some cooked chicken, tinned tuna etc. Plus a bit of macaroni cooked in veg bouillon. They also have bones most days. They seem to thrive on it. Am I doing the right thing? Also, one or two of them like to have the odd snack of horse or cow muck. I don't try to stop them as it seems to me it gives them a bit of veg matter plus a good dollop of microbes to re-inforce the immune system. Comments please but I beg you not to attack me as I am trying to do the very best for my darling dogs - it sems there are a lot of angry people who contribute to the correspondence on this site.
