Tips for the Ladies w/TSF on their leg(s).

FYI--I have a tSF on my lower right leg. I should start out saying I hate my leg hair--please, no offense to those that have leg hair--it is my own that makes me crawl. Anyway, shaving w/a TSF is tricky to say the least. What has made a huge difference is the little Personal Touch Wand--the mini shaver for eyebrows, nose & ear hair. I am able to get real close to the pin sites to remove the hair that a normal razor can't. Initially and especially after surgeries (I am up to my 8th w/at least 2 more to go) wearing undies w/sides that tie are really helpful! I cut a couple of string bikini type undies and added binding tape w/a few stitches to keep it secure and just tied them on. I only fixed one side but may switch the other side to a tie as well for ease of use. Not to mention my partner in crime thinks they are fun. I have also found that wearing skirts and dresses makes life easier! My Gaucho's have also been a life savor! I only wish I could find the wide legged ones ... read more

Hey- has anyone had an orthofix staightbar femur fixator yet? i am scheduled to have one put on to lengthen it 3.5 inches due to a growth plate injury, and as a girl, i was wondering about clothing modifications and any other helpful tidbits. Also, how long typically are you on heavy pain medications for and is the pain really as excrutiating as some make it seem?

Thanks

Christina

I just had a left tibial TSF put on post MVA. Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to make it through the next five months? I have been wearing the frame for 3 1/2 weeks and have about 20 more weeks to go.

Thanks,
Margaret

I have bow legs and recently I found out that they can be straightened in India too. I was very excited about the fact that I can too have straight legs and wear shorts and swimming costume without hesitation, unless I found out that it cost almost $12000usd. My can not manage to collect more $3000usd. Is it possible to have a surgery done at this cost? In India $12000usd is not a small amount. Having straight legs will remain my dream only?

I just found out i am going to have to have a taylor spatial frame on both tibias and a monolateral orhofix external fixator on both femurs. my surgeon plans to do one leg at a time and it will take four surgeries including the removal procedures. i am very worried about pin site care and scars. Are the scars really noticeable and dented? if anyone has encouraging information regarding the wearing of these devices, please relpy. my first round isn't until next summer and i will only have to wear the fixators for 3 months each.
Thanks and good luck to all!

Im 15 an done of my legs has been one inch shorter than the other since i was born. My doctors called it in the "grey zone" because if the difference was more than an inch i would have to get it done and if it was less than an inch i wouldnt. I'm getting the surgery in a month but im really nervous that i didnt make the right decision and ill regret getting it done. i need some support from someone who knows what im going through.

(im wearing a tibial frame) For the past few days my foot has been feeling like its asleep or burning whenever i try to lay down to sleep. I cant tolerate it so therefore i cant sleep... has anyone else experienced this? The doctor didnt seem concerned because i said that it was the whole foot that was affected but i dont think i can take this feeling much longer.

I have joined up with a couple of swimming clubs for people with disabilities, both permanent and temporary in the south Birmingham area. I would highly recommend anyone with an Ilivarov fixator who has approval of their surgeon / physio etc to go swimming, as its an awesome feeling being able to walk in the water much easier than to do so on the land. Its also great physio and exercise. Its the highlight of my week!

Thankyou for your response that makes me feel much better even though i have been through 2 previous surgeries this one is by far the most intense. I don't know if you have had a frame or not but what is the pain like. I have heard from people who have had a frame on them that the pain is not so bad soon after the surgery but gets worse as time goes on? I am guessing that is because the frame does what it is supposed to do, that is lengthen the bone, would i be correct in assuming that?
