I live in the UK and I have Hereditary Multiple Exostosis. Due to my bone condition my foot is not correctly aligned under my leg. I am 48 and the strain on my ankle is getting worse. I have been offered surgery with a Ilizarov Fixator, I am worried about infections getting to the bone. Would welcome any advice. |

Hi everyone I am going to have a frame put on my leg in a couple of weeks time and will wear it for about 6 months. I am really worried about it and have found out lots of information about the medical side. But it is hard to find info about the practical side - day to day living with a frame. I would really life to hear from any other women - what do you wear? Have you had your clothes specially adapted? Also, I would love to hear any tips from any frame-wearers about sleeping. Can you get any sleep? does the frame rip your mattress? I know these seem like small concerns, but I am used to the trauma and the pain by now. I'm just thinking of the logistics! |

What's the process like to take off the frame and do you recommend going under? What's the first month like after the frame is off? In my case, it's been on 3 months, pulled the lowest pin out last week (cause it broke) and it wasn't bad to pull that one out without anesthetic. But it was one of the wires that goes all the way through and it wasn't one that has the plug on it. |

How much scars from pins of Ilizarov apparatus for each leg? I get information about Ilizarov-Veklich apparatus in which the rods used not pins. The Doctor said only 3 invisible dots for each leg. The cosmetic reason is important for me so I need to know which apparatus better to choose for less scars. Please let me know |

Hi all I have posted on here before but thought I'd start a new thread since I now have the frame on. I've had my TFS on for five weeks now to fuse my ankle and straighten and lengthen my tib n fib. After just 3 weeks my leg was straight and I am now in the process of lenghtening it, since strarting this the pain has become more intense and night times are worse. I get muscle cramps and it's so painful it wakes me up, sleep is very little at mo but seeing surgeon on 30 September so will be asking him about this then Is anyone else suffering more pain at night? I agree with others who say you have to be strong willed as it can get you down at times and wish you didn't have it on. Keep the faith and hang on in there. Regards. Karl |

Hi. I'm looking to share experiences with other people wearing Ilizarov frames. I had mine fitted about four months ago after I was hit by a drunk diver. My left leg was shattered above and below the knee so my surgeon had to piece my leg back together again. I was not allowed to bend my knee for three months. This has lead to a build up of scar tissue around my knee and my muscles tightening up. I cannot get much bend with the frame on (around 20 percent) as my leg has swollen and some screws dig into my skin. Unfortunatley it is not as simple as just that, I sustained multiple other injuries in the crash, many of which were broken bones. This left me unable to walk for three months. I was sedated in intensive care for two weeks within which time the muscles on me legs wasted. This has meant that I have had to begin to build up the muscle in both my legs again. On the whole I am confined to a wheelchair, I find walking with my crutches painful and I feel very unbalance... read more |

My 7 year old grandaughter is facing leg lengthening surgery soon due to a left leg discrepancy of almost 3 centimeters caused by a staph infection in the NICU which destroyed her growth plate and resulted in considerable scoliosis. She wears a lift shoe but toe walks and her orthopedic surgeon is planning to break the femur, apply the Ilizarov and also do a procedure on her right leg to stunt it's growth. The whole thing is so scary but we want her to be able to walk normally. I wonder how many young children have had the "halo" applied, their pain experience etc. and did anyone have any infection(this is what scares me the most since it's what put her in this situation in the first place). Thank you. |

Hi All, I'm writing to say hi as my surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (!) 12/22. I'll soon have TSF attached to my right lower leg. I had tib/fib fracture in a fall 1 year ago - it was treated with a cast at the time, but healed crooked. Not looking forward to months of pain & metal... Any tips for someone wearing a TSF during winter months with low humidity/dry skin etc? Good luck all and Happy Holidays. Jon |

Hello All, my husband has an Ilizarov frame on his lower leg following a fractured tib and fib 8 weeks ago. Frame has been on for 6 weeks and he's doing well but we want to know if anyone has any ideas for keeping the leg warm, especially in these artic conditions. He's mobilising on one crutch when indoors and making steady progress. Any top tips, encouragement and motivation would be welcomed! Thanks, Sara (and Adam) |

Ive been wearing my frame now for 12 weeks just the other day the hospital removed the top two teirs of the llizarov from my thigh. I can't walk at all now, as before i thought i was doing really well. My knee is so weak i resemble shakin stevens on speed when i try to move. I feel so embarrassed about this but I cant cope mentally with it. Everything i do or try to do evoles round the frame.Im crying all the time i feel so dishearted. My husband is trying his best with me but he works long hours and i dont want him to suffer my instability to cope. I'm trying to put a brave face on but i cant do it any longer. Im making excuses to not go out etc. Its so hard to explain but i feel the world is moving ahead and im stuck in the same day...day in and day out. I try to keep busy reading etc but it wont lift this constant saddness. Im so disoreinted cant remember what convo i had with daughter a few days ago etc. Its like my memory is shot to pieces. All i hve is my hubby ... read more |

Hawthorn Berries have been used for heart and circulatory problems for generations. Hawthorn extract is commonly used as aroma therapy and is known for its benefits on the circulatory system. Hawthorn is perhaps best known for its use in cardiovascular conditions. Hawthorn is antispasmodic, cardiac, and sedative. Hawthorn is said to normalize blood pressure by regulating heart beat, and will lower the blood pressure. Heart muscle weakened by age will be greatly benefited by Hawthorn, and it is helpful in arteriosclerosis, and with nervous heart problems. Hawthorn Berries are effective in relieving restlessness and insomnia and tension. http://www.nutrovita.com/store/hawthorn-berries.htm |

Red Marine Algae, or Dulse, has been used by people as a food staple for thousands of years. Often referred to as a sea vegetable, research has suggested that the sulfated polysaccharides in Red Marine Algae may provide nutritional support for immune health. http://www.nutrovita.com/16347/Solaray/Red-Marine-Algae.htm |

Stamina-Rx (Stamina Rx) is a revolutionary sexual stimulant engineered to increase sexual stamina and arousal. Unlike the competition, HI-TECH uses only the highest grade extracts and nutriceuticals available. Stamina-Rx (Stamina Rx) uses TWO proprietary components not found anywhere else in America, which are: 1. Xanthoparmelia Scabrosa: It induces smooth muscle relaxation, allowing for maximum arterial dilation and increased bloodflow. 2. Cnidium Monnier: It increases nitric oxide release and inhibits PDE-5, allowing erections to be sustained for longer periods of time. http://www.nutrovita.com/42936/Hi-Tech-Pharmaceuticals/Stamina-Rx-for-Men.htm |
