My daughter had surgery a couple of weeks ago and has a fixator on her leg. In the last few days she has had unbearable pain down the back of the leg. Has anybody had the same pain? What did you do? I cannot give her anymore painkillers than she is already having. |

Son had to have in Ilizarov to correct blounts disease in his left femur. Got a clean bill (straight leg) only 2 months ago. Has still walked with a walker or cane until 2 week ago...started walking and "just did not seem right". We went to the doc yesterday, and the damn leg has now bowed AGAIN! But in the opposite direction. Did the fixator come off to early? Did he go full weight bearding too early (he follow docs orders) Doc was almost matter of fact, and says there is a 14% failure rate on children still growing. This is my sons leg, damnit...i could have beat the damn doctor......... |

Hello, My daughter underwent surgry on the 18th of June to correct a deformaty in her right Femar. The doctor placed a TSF on her and we have been turning the struts since the second week of surgry. She is stll in a good amount of pain and she also has pretty bad muscle spasms. We have been medicating her for pain but are starting to worry that this pain is something we should be concerned about. The doctor does not seem to think there is an issue but wans us to watch her. Im hoping others that have gone through this can shed some light. Thanks you...Concerned Dad |

Hi Leah. I have already put a reply on this site but just realised you may not have seen it as I put it straight after the message you left for me. Thanks for replying. I had my ankle fused 4 months ago, my surgeon was Patricia Allen. I'm just learning to hobble about but I really can't see how it is possible to walk normally without bending my ankle. I was so glad to hear from you, it has given me some hope. Where abouts in Leicester do you live. I live in Anstey. Paula |

I was 44 years old (nearly 4 years ago) when I had my ankle fusion and I live in Leicester too (who is your surgeon)? I think I walk very well now, most people would never know I'd had the operation. My ankle/foot is quite stiff and painful first thing in the morning, but soon loosens up, it also aches if I am on it too much during the day...you will soon learn how much you can and cannot do. I can still dance, but long to be able to run again! I can only wear flat shoes or ones with a very small heel, I seem to live in trainers and flip-flops! Any questions do not hesitate to ask...I wish I'd had someone to ask questions of when I had my op! |

Ilizarov removal

I got my ilizarov removed about 10 days ago. For all of those out there who have had them removed - what did your doctors recommend and put you in after removal (ie cast, walking boot, etc)? and for how long? did they allow you to bear full weight? I am very paranoid about it breaking again (it was my tib/fib), but cannot emotionally handle not being able to walk. |
